The New England Waites

"Well-blended performances, with delicate articulations and arching phrasings."
- Early Music America

Michael Collver, Cornetto
John Faieta, Mack Ramsey, and Brian Kay, Sackbuts

Two veteran early wind performers and two chamber music specialists of the next generation make up the New England Waites. The New England Waites are dedicated to exploring repertoire of the Renaissance and early Baroque, with core instrumentation of Cornetto, plus Alto, Tenor, and Bass Sackbuts, often augmented by guest performers. With a pioneering spirit, and performances that are fresh, vital, and historically informed, the group is particularly interested in building bridges and exchanges between period instrument and modern instrument players and audiences.

The New England Waites, Canzone per Sonare et Cantare
A Program of Italian Renaissance Music

In the Middle Ages the Canzona of Dante and Petrarch raised Italian lyric poetry and song to the highest level of beauty and refinement. Four hundred years later, the instrumental Canzona per sonare of Gabrieli and Frescobaldi achieved similar heights of aesthetic beauty and virtuosity for the Brass choirs of the Basilica di San Marco in Venice and St. Peter's in Rome. New England Waites showcases this celestial point in the Brass repertoire, retaining a mixture of old & new, vocal & instrumental, pian & forte!
